During early 2013 a small notice in the NT News caught my Attention, a local Batchelor man was missing; his name was Peter Rumble, or better known simply as "PJ".
At first I thought it was just a joke, that PJ had gone off on some drug fueled drinking binge with one of his mates somewhere for awhile. But when the NT Police requested that I go in to see them for a synopsis on PJ, I knew then that something was wrong. The Police detective I initially spoke to pretty much reinforced the fact that "yes" PJ was definitely missing and controversial to the extreme.
My mother (now deceased) was at the time quite upset, as PJ was a long term friend of hers for some 13 years or so. My Mum and PJ often hung out together back in Batchelor, with a number of other old time locals, some now deceased. PJ was best remembered for his days co-habiting a flat in 8 Mardango crescent with my uncle "Shorty" Edwards (deceased) from 2001 to 2010. PJ was a laid back individual who took every day as it came, if it was a good day, then it was a good day, if it was a bad day, well tomorrow will be better day. PJ was a cheeky, annoying individual whom you grew to like as a friend, and learn to laugh at some of his antics (especially when he was charged up).
For all his High Points and Low Points, I never knew PJ to ever have a enemy in life, perhaps not having a smoke or a charge was the closest he ever had to what I would consider an enemy. Hence my dismay at why he has simple just up and disappeared ?
After awhile, PJ was again mentioned within the pages of the NT News;
The Photo used in this edition of the NT News was a more recent picture I had saved on my mobile phone from a few years prior to PJ going missing. This photo was given to the NT Police, and in turn was used by the NT News to go with the "missing" update. I am to this day a bit amazed that out of all the people that PJ knew and socialized with, never bothered to help in any way shape or form, but having lived in Batchelor for many years, it does not really surprise me how reluctant the locals are with helping in times like this. Batchelor people traditionally are quick to discuss and knock people, but very very slow to lend a hand, and I speak from long term experience. I had a mutual friend of PJ's on my Facebook page, and after I asked her to send me some photo's of PJ to me from 2010 (which I know she has, as I saw them!) in order to help with missing posters, the "friend" said yes, I will help, and the next day I was unfriended from her Facebook site.
If anyone out their in the world of cybernetics seen or heard of anything, no matter how irrelevant, attached to the where-bouts of missing man Peter "PJ" Rumbel - PLEASE, call your nearest Police station.
